Healthy Greens From FogDog Farm

FogDog Farm

Kristen Draz and William Holland founded FogDog Farm in 2016 after many years of building their agricultural knowledge and skills on small farms. Dedicated to creating a vibrant and resilient local foodshed in the Sierra Nevada foothills, they firmly believe small farms are an essential part of the health of our community and that good food is a right for all.

In 2019, they moved their farming operations to Placerville on the historic site of Wakamatsu Farm. On the day they decided to lease the land, “fogdog” was the word of the day on dictionary.com. It means “a bright spot appearing through a fog bank.” And FogDog Farm was born!

In partnership with the American River Conservancy, they’re committed to seeing this land farmed in perpetuity and to creating access and support for the next generation of farmers. This continuity has enabled them to plant perennial crops such as asparagus and fruit trees, establish native perennial hedgerows along their field edges, and build infrastructure like greenhouses and their farm stand.

They work to grow nutrient-dense food year-round using low-till, ecological growing practices and market their produce to local restaurants, at their farm stand, and stores such as BriarPatch.

This is FogDog Farms’ fifth year providing certified organic produce to BriarPatch Food Co-op. From their six acres, they harvest salad greens nearly year-round, and over the next six months you’ll also find other favorites like head lettuces, green onions, red beets and parsley on our Produce department shelves…perfect for an all-FogDog salad!

BriarPatch Food Co-op is proud to feature local farmers and the lovely, organic produce grown with love from all along our Sacramento Watershed

Our Local Definition

Local = anything grown or produced within the Sacramento Watershed—the watershed in which current BriarPatch locations operate.

And just as important: “direct from producers” because it remains a core part of what local means to us. We’ll continue to celebrate the farm-direct relationships BriarPatch has built over decades.
