JOIN THE CO-OP
It’s Easy To Join
1. Read, complete, and sign a Membership
Agreement and Application. Download a Member Agreement and Application
2. Pay part or all of the $200 investment:
- $20 first payment. Renew with additional
$20 payments ($10 low income rate)
every 6 months until your payments
total $200. Renewing keeps your
purchases counting toward an annual
refund, and you remain eligible for
discounts and other benefits. Or
- $200 full payment. No renewals, plus you
receive a $25 BriarPatch gift certificate.
Your investment (minus a $10 recordkeeping fee) is refundable at any time, subject to the ability of BriarPatch to pay.
Owner Benefits
- Annual Patronage Dividend

Besides the tangible benefits of being a BriarPatch
owner, many people join for the values:
- Pride in supporting community. BriarPatch
itself is a local, community-owned business, and
we promote a strong and sustainable community
by supporting other local businesses. Every dollar
spent at BriarPatch has roughly three times as
much local economic impact as a dollar spent at a
non-locally owned business.
- Investing in the future.
BriarPatch supports
products and services that ensure personal and
planetary health: a legacy we can be proud to
leave our children and generations to come.

What is a Co-op?
Members are the owners
A co-op is a business that is owned and controlled by the people who use it. A cooperative’s purpose is to serve their mutual needs of its owners, not to maximize profits for a single owner or for stockholders.
BriarPatch Co-op, founded in 1976, is part of a worldwide cooperative movement that seeks to promote positive social and economic change through cooperative action.
Everyone Is Welcome
You don’t have to be an owner to shop
at BriarPatch, and everyone pays the same
prices. Being an owner entitles you to
an annual dividend when given, as well as special
order and other discounts. (See other side.)
Volunteering
BriarPatch owners are not required
to work in the store; in fact, most don’t. For
those interested in volunteering, there may
be opportunities to earn a 10% discount by
working six hours per month (3 hours for
seniors) for each adult in the household.
Volunteer applications are available at the
Customer Service Window.
